The fine print

Terms of use, in plain language.

Using Build Your Next means agreeing to a short set of terms. We have written them the way we write everything here: plainly, and without hiding the parts that matter.

What this isAnd what you agree to

Build Your Next is a free, independent career intelligence project. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. We may update these terms as the site evolves; the effective date above tells you which version is current, and continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

The site is provided for your personal, non-commercial use. You agree not to misuse it — for example, by trying to break its rate limits or security, scraping it at scale, or using it to harm others. Beyond that, everything the tools produce for you is yours to keep and use.

Guidance, not adviceThe honest limit

Everything on Build Your Next is informational. The Signal report, the Pivot tools, the Upgrade tracks, the Search desk, the Lab drafts, and the Briefing articles are meant to help you think and plan — they are not professional career, financial, legal, or employment advice, and they are not a guarantee of any outcome. Your decisions and their results are your own.

We work hard to make the data accurate and to source every number. Even so, public data has limits, roles vary, and the world changes. Treat what you find here as a well-sourced starting point to verify against your own situation, not a verdict.

AI-generated outputHow to treat it

Where Build Your Next uses AI — including the Signal narrative, tool coaching, and the drafts in the Lab — the output is generated by an AI model, may contain errors, and should be reviewed and edited before you rely on it. The AI narrates and drafts from your data; it does not invent the underlying numbers, and it is not a substitute for your own judgment. Always check anything AI wrote before you send it, submit it, or act on it. Which surfaces use AI is documented on the Methodology page.

Your dataWhere it lives

Your work is stored in your browser, not in an account we hold. That means you are responsible for keeping your own backups (you can export everything from the Your data page), and it means we cannot recover work you clear, lose, or delete. How we handle the narrow data that does reach our servers is covered in the Privacy page, which forms part of these terms.

No warranty · Limits of liabilityThe standard, stated plainly

The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any result you get from it is accurate or complete.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Build Your Next and its maker will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, opportunity, or income, arising from your use of the site. Because the site is free, our total liability to you for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you paid to use it — which is zero. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you; nothing here removes rights you have that cannot be waived.

Legal termsGoverning law, severability, termination

Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington and the applicable laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be handled by the state or federal courts located in Washington, and you agree to that jurisdiction — except where the law of your home country gives you the right to bring a claim there.

Severability. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, that part will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the rest of the terms will stay in full effect.

Termination. You can stop using Build Your Next at any time — and because your data lives in your browser, you can take it with you or erase it from the Your data page. We may suspend or discontinue the site, or any part of it, at any time, including to protect the site or its users from abuse. The sections on informational-only guidance, AI output, no warranty, and limits of liability survive any termination.
